Sexualixed images

Sense PR and Marketing is my background sexualized images paced in ads, movies and anything else I understand that it is to gain profit. However, what concerns me are the people who are creating these ads knowingly degrading people to make profits. We must understand that in media the consumer is law. What the consumer wants the consumer gets in reason. These sexualized images we see are produced because it is sought out by both male and female consumers. These are the things we are buying regardless of our feelings towards the product or service. Any image in the media today will have an affect on how men and women are perceived. Ultimately we are watching fantasies that we are so consumed by we find reasons to make those fantasies realities so we try to recreate them. In the long run those actions by both men and women make it easier for things in the media to have an affect on the viewers.

Ways of Seeing...

I think in this writing of Berger he is very grounded in the way that he is expressing his thoughts. I do not believe that Berger is wrong in what he is saying. Women for centuries have found that the foundation of a women is one that is supported by the men. Now I am using "support" loosely for the reasons that the actions of a man who is consumed of the culture of society toward a women will always be seen somewhat unfair or have the lingering question behind it, Why? Berger in the beginning of his writing talks about how the presence of a woman is essentially all she has as a woman. Her presence determines her importance or wealth to society. It shows an idea of what she may think of herself and her presence does determine how she is treated my men. I believe that this is all true. However, I do not believe that it is fair. There is no need for a Woman to depend on anyone outside of herself to determine who she is and what she is capable of. This very ideology is one of the major components to why women have yet to experience independence and respect given by men.

Ways of Seeing

One phrase from Ways of Seeing by Berger that really struck me was “Men act and Women appear.” This statement sums up the point that women are being objectified and their only purpose is to be looked upon. I completely agree that by objectifying women we are taking their power away from them and putting it into the eyes of the viewer. This notion cancan be dangerous if accepted as the norm. Which in those times it was. In the times Berger was referring to it was a very real understanding of how women should be treated. In the times of the renaissance women were only worth the image they had to keep. In todays day and age it seems we have grown from those views a great deal, however our mainstream media still has a striking resemblance to the paintings of the renaissance and the notion of objectifying women in the media.
