Ways of Seeing Response
After reading "Ways of Seeing", it opened my eyes on the art aspect but touched upon things that you see daily. I found these types of readings very interesting and eye opening because it surrounds us everyday but it's something that we really don't take into consideration. Men always look at women, and woman always pay attention to make sure they are getting the attention that they want. We see this on social media and even when we are out and about. Woman will wear things that are appealing to men instead of comfortable for themselves. Woman tend to do things with the approval of men because then they are getting their attention and pleasing them at the same time. I think the world has come to where woman do a lot of things on mens approval and hopefully one day we find a way to fix this.

Where you say " Woman will wear things that are appealing to men instead of comfortable for themselves. " I could not agree more with that statement. Today girls go out of their way to show off extra skin or body parts in order to catch the eyes of men. It is a shame that woman feel the need to portray a certain look rather embrace their true beauty. A lot of it has to do with media like you said, woman worry about imitating what is "hot" rather creating their own look.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the gender role differentiations that Berger discusses in his book are a part of our everyday lives and that women are very aware of the "male gaze" in our society today. However, I am not sure if it is safe to make the assumption that all women tend to do things to appeal to men. Many women dress and act in a way that makes them feel comfortable about themselves, and then receive unsolicited attention/comments from male strangers in return.

It is a pity that some girls think their outside are more important than their inside. Somehow, some girls would say that "the first sigh" is all about their appearances, and you want to be popular or be loved then must pass the first sigh. It sounds really shallow, but it is what it is. hopefully, females make their fashion trends which are suitable themselves more than just to please males
